Alexi Panos {on being intimate with our lives}

In this episode, we talk about what it means to be intimate with our lives... whether in our relationships, our work, with ourselves, or with a given moment. We explain some examples and tendencies that may indicate a lack of intimacy (such as a feeling of disconnection or disembodiment, a need to be busy, or a tendency to get distracted) as well as some of the reasons why we may tend to lack intimacy in our lives, such as fear, discomfort, social conditioning, or all-of-the above.  Our guest, Alexi Panos, joins us to discuss ways that you can begin to increase the level of intimacy in your life and with yourself.  Alexi discusses the importance of being present with what is in the here and now in order to tap into what’s possible. She explains how sitting with your emotions, honoring them, and accepting them can help you become more aligned with yourself, and offers her tips for how to become more intimate within your life and ultimately come to a better understanding of self.

Top Three Takeaways:

  1. Humans are conditioned to seek to avoid discomfort, and sometimes this keeps us from being intimate with ourselves and the present in our lives.
  2. Constantly seeking others approval, and molding ourselves according to others’ expectations, is one way that we keep ourselves from being intimate with our lives.
  3. Be willing to ask yourself some of the harder questions about yourself: Where might you be avoiding intimacy? What distracts you? What triggers those distractions and avoidances? Where do you tend to focus (past, present, or future) and how (positive or negative)?
