Stephanie Estima {on self-care and self-esteem}

This week, we’re offering our perspectives on self-care and talking about self-esteem, and worthiness. We discuss why it’s so hard to implement self-care in our lives, even when we know it’s so important. For instance, women often put everyone else first, and we don’t think we are worthy of self-care. And, it doesn’t help that the idea of self-care is sometimes stigmatized as selfish. In this episode, we talk about what self-care means, and how to find the right kind for you. Our guest, Dr. Stephanie Estima, joins us to talk about how self-care can help you bring yourself into greater alignment, and how to start recognizing when you need a little more TLC from yourself and in your relationships. Plus, shares some deep knowledge about how self-esteem and self-worth work in the female mind, and offers up some great tips about how you can begin to more deeply understand your needs and implement ways for them to be better met.

Top Three Takeaways:

  1. Part of self-care is taking care of the physical body, but another part is taking care of your mind and psyche… relaxing, decompressing, slowing down… digging into your needs and honoring them.
  2. Try different methods of self-care and see whether it’s an activity that is filling you up, depleting your energy, or numbing you out.
  3. Take baby steps to ease into self-care as needed. You don’t have to block out big chunks of time or set huge goals.  Add a little more self-care from moment to moment, such as by practicing gratitude more often.
